Graduation Party!!!

Last Saturday was my graduation party. We had the celebration in our apartment clubhouse. It turned out to be a great spot except for the fact that it was about 105 degrees (literally) and the air wasn't working! Overall, I guess it was okay since we had the pool.

For dinner we had tacos. We had carne asada, chicken, beans, rice and cake for dessert. I thought my cake turned out pretty cute.

It was great because most of my family made it down from Utah.

What's been going on?!?!

Woah!!! I have neglected my blog quite a bit lately!

I have been so super busy student teaching and getting ready for my graduation ceremony that I haven't taken the time to post about anything... So here is what has been going on...

I will include more pictures than text, cuz I know it can get a bit boring... OH! ...and I will try to do it in chronological order(so start from the bottom)... Here goes nothing!!!

I decided to change my hair again! I get bored REALLY easy, and I have hated the color of my hair for awhile... I decided to be bold... This is how it turned out!!

We also went to an Angels game. It was fun, except for the fact that HUGE moths kept flying all around us, and some even eventually landed on us...GROSS! Angels lost unfortunately :(


We also made sure to make a few trips to the dog beach. The puppies weren't quite sure about mingling with the hundreds of other dogs, but they are getting more used to it and seem top enjoy it...

Dave and I were able to take a break from studying, for actuarial tests (Dave) and students teaching (me), and go visit friends. We went to dinner at BJ's and then did the karaoke thing.

David was in his best friend (an best man's) wedding on April 19th. It was really beautiful, and David looked QUITE handsome, if I do say so myself...

Goodbye to a Loyal Friend...

Today was one of the worst days of my life. My childhood dog, Tess, had to be euthanized. I had the honor of spending some of her last moments with her. We got her when I was 8, so I am devastated to say the VERY least. I know she is in a better place and out of pain, but I miss her terribly.

So. I went to the dentist today. It is my least favorite place in the world, in case you didn't know. (I would rather do ANYTHING else in the world instead of go to the dentist, since I have had such terrible experiences) When I got there they said I need:
a new crown
an overlay
3 fillings
not 1, not 2, not 3, BUT 4 wisdom, teeth extracted
and...they are impacted
(Oh, and I do go to regular check-ups, so it isn't like I have been slacking)

JOY!!!

and, the best part is...I get to pay $3,000 for all of these things I DO NOT WANT!!!

I am so depressed right now :(

A visit from San Jose

My friend Christina is going to school in San Jose to become an RN so I don't get to see her very often. Last week was her spring break, so she came home for the week. My friend Gabby and I were able to get together with her on Thursday night (after my last class) and catch up.



We ended up going out for pizza and doing some shopping. When we were out Christina decided she wanted Gabby and I to dye her hair. So we did...

Stone Soup

I know you are probably sick of hearing about the class I am student teaching in, so sorry, but I love sharing what they are doing. Wednesday they had a play at school that I went to. The play was on a popular story called "Stone Soup." It was really cute. The kids came in on Friday and made stone soup.

Everyone had to bring an ingredient from home. This is how it turned out...

Just Like My Cousin Katie!!!

Many of you read my cousin Katie's blog, because, well, many of you are family. Therefore, most of you know she is in the midst of birthday season at her house, which results in her making a plethora birthday cakes.



These are no ordinary cakes, these are works of art. I have been watching her produce these fantastic cakes and have been fascinated. So, last week I went out to Michael's and decided to try this artistic process myself.

Green Eggs and Ham!

So, as many of you know, Dr. Seuss' birthday was a few weeks ago. To celebrate the occasion, the students made green eggs and ham. This was a lot of fun. Many of the kids were not sure what it was at first. There were a lot of confused looks on faces and some questions.

"Mrs. Ostapeck, are you cooking avocados?"
"I am not eating that."
"It's barf, I know it!"

A lot of the kids gathered around and watched me cook the eggs. It was pretty cute. They were VERY interested!




Each of the students ended up getting some green eggs, ham, toast and EVEN green juice. They all ended up having at least a little bit of it.









After we were finished eating our Dr.Seuss breakfast, we had the kids make a "yum" and "yuck" chart. The students then got to put a happy or sad face under the chart to see how many people liked it and how many didn't.

The students got a bit carried away. Some of them put a sad face under "yuck," but I think they just thought it was "cool" to do because all of them ate it.

Leprechaun Traps

The students in my class had a project to do for St. Patricks day. They were supposed to make a Leprechaun trap to catch the Leprechauns on St. Patricks Day. The students came into class on Friday, and shared their traps with the rest of the class...



The point of the project was to persuade the Leprechauns to come to their trap. Once they were there, you were supposed to construct something to catch them in.





This was by far, the most extravagant trap. There was even an owners manual for it. Apparently, it was called the L2000.



I found this one hilarious. If you look at the trap, it says "free beer."



The following Monday (St. Patricks Day) the students were allowed to set their traps up to see if they could catch a Leprechaun. When they came in from recess they were SHOCKED that they had been visited by a Leprechaun. The Leprechaun had left chocolate gold coins in their traps. Unfortunately, the Leprechaun had gotten away before they came in from recess, shucks!

The dress.

My friend Roxi is getting married at the beginning of August, and I have the privilege of being in her wedding. I went to try on the dress the other day and I told her I would post the pictures so she could see what it looks like on. So, here you go Roxi. (Sorry it took so long)

It was really busy in the place, and so I tried to take pictures of it myself. I did the best I could, and tried to get the whole dress in the picture.

These are the pictures I took. The dress is actually going to be celedon (a shade of green).

My Class...

I finally have a placement. I am in a combination class consisting of Kindergartners and 1st graders. It is split down the middle, so we have a 1:1 ratio. My master teachers name is Ms. Shaver. She is super nice. I have been observing the last two weeks, and have gotten to know the students quite well. I will be taking over the class in two weeks, so this is what is supposed to happen.

Since I have started, I have made a new best friend. His name is Connor. Connor struggles to stay in his seat, and always needs to be doing something. He has grown VERY fond of me in the last few weeks. He ALWAYS needs to sit next to me and go where ever I go.

This is Connor. I have noticed that when I give him my individual attention he excels in his school work. He is such a smart boy, and I love working with him.

My first couple of days I got to lead an art lesson with the kids. We painted a huge picture of a flower. Ms. Shaver said that we will use this poster to teach about the life cycle of a flower.

New Bed...

Maddie and Motley got a new bed. We had a great little crate for Maddie and Motley that they shared, but then they started getting out of it, and eventually chewed a hole in it.



David and I decided that we would have to get them something else because we have to have somewhere to put them when we're not home. So, we went to Wall-mart and looked at all the crates, and decided to get something that would hopefully last FOREVER, since they are a little bit expensive.



We decided to get one that was made of metal so that they couldn't ever chew through it. We then thought that since we would be getting a new one, that we planned on having FOREVER, we should get one that is bigger than the one they use to have, so that when we are gone we don't feel so bad.



Needless to say, we narrowed it down to two. One was bigger and one was smaller (or so we thought). We decided to go with the smaller one because the pups are small.



When I got home I assembled it and was SHOCKED to see just how big it was... They def. won't be cramped!







It is so big that even I can fit in it.





Motley always wants to be in hos cage. I think he likes the bed in it.
